It's time to shimmy! Attend a full day of activities.... from warm-ups to workshops to vendors, performances, and more, the day will be jam-packed with entertainment and movement. The day begins with workshops, followed by performances and an open dance session.
Heather will be performing a solo on the open stage of this Bay Area belly dance festival featuring Zoe Jakes, Kami Liddle, Jill Parker, and Amel Tafsout as well as vending all day Saturday and Sunday! We will be surrounded by beauty as Foolproof designs and Melodia Designs selling their wares! All events are happening at SPIRE, 825 Athens Ave, Oakland.

A classic no frills fusion belly dance drills and combos class! Class will start with a dynamic warm-up followed by an introduction to the movement vocabulary to explore various ways to integrate it into movement flows that will be turned into combos that travel across the floor :) The class will end with a ‘pass the move’ circle dance improv. celebration!
*This class requires some foundation of belly dance OR a foundation in an isolation-focused dance (e.g., Jazz, Hip Hop, Latin dances, etc.).

Lovers of dance, outerspace, or all things esoteric: this show is for you! "Planetarium: A Celestial Spectacle of Fusion Bellydance" seeks to illustrate the cosmos through languid shape-making and dazzling storytelling. Produced by Oneonta's own Rose Calavera, the show features local performers as well as brightly burning stars from the US and Canada. Join these dancers on August 17th for a journey across the Universe.
Fusion bellydance is rooted in the folkdance traditions of the Middle East, North Africa, and Eastern Europe. Since the Egyptian style of Raqs Sharki arrived in the United States in the early 20th century, dancers such as Ruth St. Denis, Jamila Salimpour, and Rachel Brice have been studying and repurposing the movements, fusing them thoughtfully with anything from Indian Classical Dance to Hip-Hop.
